SBN (Southern Broadcasting Network, Inc.) is a Philippine television network owned by Filipino-Chinese tycoon Lucio Co, the owner of Puregold Price Club Inc., a supermarket chain. Its main broadcast facilities at Solar Media Center, Ground Floor, WCC Building, EDSA cor. Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City with transmitters at 22/F Strata 2000 Bldg., F. Ortigas Jr. Road, Ortigas Center, Pasig City, which the former SBN studios were located. Its TV station (DWCP-TV 21) became the first local UHF TV station in Metro Manila in May, 1992.

HistoryEdit

Southern Broadcasting Network of Davao launched SBN Channel 21, the first local UHF TV station in Metro Manila starting 1992. It was then known as World TV 21. The idea is to bring back programming similar to the forcibly shut-down FEN Channel 17 of the former Clark US Air Base a year earlier due to the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.

Beginning on January 1, 2008, Solar Entertainment began to lease airtime on SBN, choosing to broadcast programming from its entertainment channel ETC.[1] This partnership ended in March 2, 2011, as Solar transferred ETC to RPN. As a result, SBN renewed partnership with Solar Entertainment to create the news network Talk TV, and since October 30 2012, it is now known as the Solar News Channel, the first 24-hour English news channel on free-to-air TV.
